Newly married couple will break glass (drinking glass or a vase) during the wedding ceremony,
shortly after it or at the end of the reception.  According to this Italian wedding tradition

the bride and the groom will be happily living together.

Cutting of a log – Italian wedding tradition

In some northern parts of Italy during the reception the newlyweds are supposed to cut in a half a large log.
Either the family members or the friends provide a sizable log and a saw.
The bride and the groom approach the log many times during the festivity and cut the log little by little.
Family members are encouraged to help since the cutting may take many hours.
This wedding tradition means that once the bride and the groom were able to cut the log
they will be able to successfully confront and overcome any obstacles in their marriage.
