Principal Sponsors (Ninang and Ninong) – Filipino wedding tradition

These are frequently aunts and uncles for whom the bride and the groom show special appreciation and respect.
The primary sponsors, either one or several couples, are chosen for their practical wisdom,
successful marriage and their readiness to assist newlyweds with advice and support on their journey of married life.
The principal sponsors are a part of the processional and sit in a prominent place during the wedding ceremony.

Secondary Sponsors – Filipino wedding tradition

A traditional Filipino wedding may involve four sets of Secondary Sponsors.
These are usually either relatives or good friends.  The secondary sponsors might be assigned
to different functions during the ceremony thus becoming the Unity Candle Sponsors, the Coin Sponsors,
the Veil Sponsors and the Cord Sponsors.
