The unique
character of the Christian Wedding Vows lies in fact that they
relate explicitly to Jesus Christ and the message of the New
Testament. Specifically, these vows would contain a reference to
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit or the mention of the Holy
Trinity. Also, the Christian vows would frequently use a phrase “in
the presence of God,” although this is not necessarily an indicator
of Christian faith.
There is no
determined number of Christian wedding vows given the number of
denominations, centuries of Christian tradition and millions of
Christian marriages that have been taking place all over the world
throughout the centuries. In general Christian marriage promises
are linked to the Church liturgy since the nuptial celebration for
the believers in Christ for the most part have been solemnized in
church settings. By its definition Christian wedding vows would
involve a validly ordained person who presides at the ceremony such
as a priest, bishop, or minister.
